The Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati OH was named by its first German settlers who, when crossing the Erie Canal (now Central Pkwy), were reminded of the Rhine River in Germany. Once a settlement of the city’s cultural elite immigrants, it is now the poorest neighborhood in the city with over 90% of its residents living in poverty.
