Pennsylvania Ballet To support the creation of a new work by Philadelphia Choreographer Terry Beck for ten dancers from the Ballet's experimental wing, Off Center Ballet, during a three-week residency. Mr. Beck will select dancers, choreography, set, costumes, design, and score. Project date: Oct - Nov. 1993 $ 17,500.00
Philadanco To commission a new work for the company by Urban Bush Women choreographer Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, entitled " the Five Spot," inspired by the 50's jazz club. It will be set to a compilation of period jazz, with collaboration from poet/writer Hattie Gossett and visual artist Treva Offutt. Project dates: Sept.1993-May 1994. $ 20,000.00
Zeromoving Dance Company To support the creation of a new 30-minute work, entitled "The Open Palm," to be choreographed for the company by Artistic Director Karen Bamonte with collaboration from composer Lois Vierk. Scored for a string quartet, "The Open Palm" will be the first part of a larger work inspired by the monastic life of certain medieval "religieuses." Project dates: Sept. 1993 - May 1994. $ 20,000.00
Terry Beck To support the choreographer in the creative development of his work "A Minute Too Later" into an evening-length piece that explores the passage of time as documented by home movies. Project dates: Oct. 1993 - May 1994. $ 5,000.00
Asimina Chremos To support the choreographer in a 21-week exploration with dancers Dan Karlberg and Laura Peterson and musician/composer David Bally, to construct new movement vocabulary, investigate the music-dance relationship, and redefine her artistic vision. Project dates: Sept. 1993 - Feb. 1994. $ 7,500.00
Lina Early To support the creation of a new hour-long work entitled "II Piacere," for five dancers and an actor. The piece will be based on the writings of Italian author Gabriele D'Annunzio with scoring by Gabriel Antonini and pianist Simone Antonini. Project dates: Sept. 1993 - Feb. 1994. $ 10,000.00
Group Motion Dance Company To support the creation of an evening-length work for eight dancers, entitled "Labyrinth I", by resident choreographer/artistic director Manfred Fischbeck, in collaboration with composer Andrea Clearfield and designer Kishwar Rizvi. Project dates: Sept. 1993 - May 1994. $ 10,000.00
Rennie Harris To support creative exploration with assistant choreographer Roko Kawai, music coordinator Lenny Seidman, 3 hip-hop dancers, and 2 percussionists, experimenting with and developing fresh interactive movement vocabulary. Project dates: Jan 1994 - Mar. 1994. $ 10,000.00
Ronen Koresh To support the creation of a new evening length work for thirteen dancers, entitled "Carousel", exploring the world of the 90's dance club, and in collaboration with composer Daniel Bacon. Project dates: Sept. 1993 - July 1994. $ 8,000.00
Karen McMahon To support the creation of a site-specific evening length work titled "Folds of Skin." The piece will explore the images of women, motherhood and relationship, based on recorded interviews. Dancers Leah Stein, Asimina Chremos and Dan Karlberg, and visual designers Scott Alburger and Edward Dormer will collaborate. Project dates: Nov. 1993 - July 1994. $ 8,000.00
Darla Stanley To support a 30-week collaboration between Darla Stanley and choreographer Melanie Stewart to create a program of solo and duet dances with vocal, poetic and musical accompaniment. Project dates: Sept. 1993 - May 1994. $ 9,000.00
Leah Stein To research and develop a new site-specific performance. The choreographer will work with 5 dancers, sculptor Edward Dormer, percussionist Toshi Makihara, and 12 additional performers. Project dates: Sept. 1993 - Aug. 1994. $ 10,000.00
Sheila Ward To support a group of individual dance artists in a collaborative residency with choreographer Rod Rogers to learn new movement vocabulary and enhance their level of professional ability. Project dates: Sept. 1993 - Aug. 1994. $ 10,000.00
